The project entailed the construction of two new build office buildings situated centrally in Reading comprising an undercroft basement, podium slab and 8 storey buidings above.
Modebest were engaged to construct the superstructure reinforced concrete works to the cores and structural concrete topping to the floor metal decking. The superstructure to the buildings was constructed using steel frames and permanent metal decking which was constructed by others.
The reinforced concrete cores were constructed using slipform shuttering, ahead of the steel frame installation, incorporating cast in connector plates to facilitate the tying in of the steel frame to the cores.
The concrete volume in the cores was 1,800m3 and the total volume of concrete poured was 6,800m3. All of the works were completed on time and within budget.
Modebest were awarded the Health and Safety monthly award in March 2016 by Galliford Try for the control of the slipform rig and diligence of the crew. We were also awarded the Health and Safety monthly award in July 2016 for the recognition of our operative’s good attitude towards health and safety.
